If you have Pets installed, you can do a animal rescue sim.

I have millions of sims that are in 'tweak' mode so I'm not going to be much help. (millions...of course an exaggeration...)Maybe go outside of your box and make an ethnic sim, or if you normally make adults, make a teen instead. Make a small family of children that need adopting or something. Just ideas... ;)

Also, I'm loving your story. Could you post it here? I mean, why would she have a black haired baby when you sleep with a blonde guy. LOL.
